  Yantai Nanshan University is a full-time ordinary undergraduate college invested by Nanshan Holdings, one of China's top 500 companies, and approved by the China’s Ministry of Education. The university was founded in 1988, government-approved as a full-time ordinary undergraduate university in 2005, passed the qualification assessment of undergraduate teaching work by the Ministry of Education in 2015, was identified by the Shandong Provincial People's Government as an approved master's degree-awarding cultivation unit in 2017, and was approved by the Department of Education of Shandong Province to jointly cultivate master students with three Universities from 2019. Yantai Nanshan University is a high-level applied undergraduate university. 

  The university embodies 12 schools and 69 departments (divisions and centers), 55 undergraduate majors, forming 15 professional clusters, all of which are application-oriented majors jointly built by the university and enterprises. It has over 30,000 undergraduates currently enrolled and has over 1,500 full-time teachers. The university has seven research institutes, 15 applied research teams, one team of talents of superior disciplines of Shandong Province universities, and four talents (teams) of “Double Hundred Plan” of Yantai. It covers an area of 3,082 acres with a building area of 823,800 square metres, with a total value of 135 million Yuan of experimental instruments and equipment. There are 17 cross-integration experimental training centres for new materials, high-end energy and chemical industry, including 225 laboratories.
